汉语中有象声词，也叫摹声词，顾名思义，指那些模仿自然声音的词。英语同样有nomatopeia，它们分别归于动词、名词类。英语中有些字母的发音象征某种气氛、意境，能使人产生相应的联想。如s是咝音字母，它常常和风的飕飕声、水的唰唰声、蛇的咝咝声有这样那样的联系；m是鼻音字母，它常常表示低沉的声音，如人的窃窃私语、虫子的嗡嗡声、鸽子的咕咕声和海啸声；h是吐气音，它常常和气喘、费劲相联系，如hurry, heave , huge, hurl, hoist , hop。b和p是唇音字母，它常常表示和水有关的的声音，如boil, bubble, drip, drop, lap, plop, ripple；r是卷舌摩擦音，发音粗糙生硬，它常常表示噪音和其它令人不愉快的声音，如洪水、战争、大破坏等。镶嵌进象声词，可使你文章中的人物和动作，栩栩如生，呼之欲出。掌握这些象声词可提高你攻克英语的信心，进而增强驾御语言的能力，但这类词一般汉英词典又很难查到， 故特撰此文，以备您不时之需。

1．表示人哭的象声词
cry：哭，喊，未必有泪。
Weep：流泪，哭泣。
Wail：大声痛哭，尖叫。
Shed：流泪。
